October: Dead Bug
The Dead bug is an essential exercise to build core strength and stability. This simple core exercise encourages a neutral spine and improves back body strength. The dead bug exercise targets the muscles of the core – the transverse abdominis (your deepest core muscle), pelvic floor and spinal back muscles as well as hip flexors and shoulders.
Improving this movement pattern is important in order to protect your lower back. You will have greater ease lifting and moving heavy objects, walking up stairs, performing any twisting movements like raking and shoveling.
