INVIVO Workshops and Events – March

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP: Self-care through Journaling with Bela Suresh Roongta

Wednesday, March 10 // 7 – 8:30 pm // $45 – CANCELLED!
RESCHEDULED to Saturday, May 8 // 1 – 2:30 pm // $45 – Now in-person.

Self-care is essential…It’s important to take time to reflect, review, recharge, reawaken, and reconnect to your life’s happenings, hopes, dreams, and paths.

Bela Suresh Roognta will share her own story and unique style of journaling during this hands-on virtual interactive workshop. Posing questions and giving ideas to ponder, she will guide you on a personal journey where you will explore creative, easy, and meaningful ways to capture and let go of experiences.

By making your own mixed media ‘story book’ journal discover a place where you can rest, find peace, and create joy. We encourage you to bring photos, drawings, and ideas with you to this 1.5-hour format but they are not required.

Registration includes a simple journal to get you started. Journals will be available at the event.

Bela is offering this workshop to friends of INVIVO at the very special price of $45 (normally $75-95). Bela’s workshops fill quickly. Early registration encouraged.

Bela Suresh Roongta is a Milwaukee-based lawyer-turned-artist, writer, and storyteller. Her work is guided by her East-Indian immigrant experience, work as a lawyer, and domestic violence advocate. Bela’s hand-drawn art and written journals capture more than personal reflections, they capture the essence of her culture and life. She was recently featured in the February issue of Milwaukee Magazine as a journaling expert. Bela’s current solo art exhibition “366 winter, spring, summer, fall” is a memoir and collective retrospective of 2020 that includes drawings and journal entries. The show is at the Var West Gallery in Milwaukee until the end of March. She leads journaling workshops virtually and in-person.

On January 1, 2020, I drew my 1st circle. On December 31, 2020, I drew my 366th. What began as a 30 day creative making marathon became a year long daily practice of drawing, writing, and creating. There were only three rules— to draw or write every day, to start with the same sized circle and drawing paper, and to never throw one away. with either graphite, ink, collage or text I made my first mark. I borrowed from the intricate floral and geometric shapes of my East Indian ancestors to create small, intimate drawings. I scribbled over and layered under. I imagined and reimagined. I started over. I never threw one away.” – Bela Suresh Roognta

Beverages will be available for purchase at the gallery. Space is limited to 8. Register early.

Meet us at the Var West Gallery located at 423 W Pierce Street, Milwaukee WI, 53204.
