Developed in China, acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old system of medicine that is based upon principles of homeostasis. Very fine needles are placed in specific locations of the body and in patterns that augment natural healing
energy known as "Qi." Practiced worldwide - especially in Asia, Europe and Canada - acupuncture is most often used western medicine to control pain, but it also can be used as an adjunct to other medical treatment in many disorders.

Douglas Bertram, L.Ac. has been assessing and treating orthopedic disorders for the past twelve years. He is now a
Nationally Certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine from the NCCAOM. His initial training in massage therapy was well received in his home town of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Douglas subsequently sought to study first hand with the developers of several modalities including Myofacial Release, Crainio-Sacral Therapy, and Neuro-Energetic Release. This extensive training in structural bodywork led him to the Naropa institute in Boulder, Colorado, where he earned his B.A. degree in
Contemplative Psychology. While at Napora, Douglas had the opportunity to be trained in the tradition of Shambala Meditation by first generation students of Naropa's founder Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Douglas has worked in multiple clinical settings throughout the United States. In his twelve years of practice he has worked along side, many Medical Doctors, Physical Therapists, Chiropractors and Acupuncturists. Recently he has completed a four year masters program at the Five Branches Institute of Oriental Medicine, in Santa Cruz, CA. He is now maintaining a private practice in Milwaukee and Madison, WI, as well as, teaching students his unique combination of orthopedic Bodywork and Traditional Chinese Modalities, an innovation he calls Lotus Hands.

Jennifer Bertram, L.Ac., is a Nationally Certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, a Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Wisconsin, and holds a Master's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, CA. She began her fascination with the human body at a very young age. With a background in dance, martial arts, scholastic sports and bodybuilding, she started working as a personal trainer. She holds a BS degree in Exercise Sciences with an emphasis in Kinesiology and Physiology. She continued her education by taking extracurricular pre-med classes and environmental epidemiology courses at the University of Wisconsin Madison. As a student Jennifer worked at the Community Pharmacy of Madison Wisconsin, a non-traditional collective pharmacy, where she became well versed in Western Herbology and Homeopathy. Jennifer continued to build her knowledge of Herbology as she became a Student Teacher in Chinese Herbal Formulas during her four-year study in Santa Cruz, CA. Additionally, she worked as a direct assistant to Tibetan Doctor sMenpa Yangdron Kalzong where she watched how a healthy mind leads to a healthy body. Jennifer has developed a highly successful blend of Acupunture, Chinese Herbology, Western Herbology, Nutritional Counseling and Tui na (Chinese Massage Technique). She specializes in the treatment of menopausal symptoms, endocrine imbalances, emotional and
psychological disorders, and general health maintenance. When not treating patients, Jennifer enjoys reading Buddhist texts, listening to music, doing yoga and spending time outside. |
